International IPBES reports

One of IPBES’s core functions is to develop status reports on biodiversity and ecosystem services. These reports are intended to support policy makers in making informed decisions on both a global and local level.

What is a consensus report?

A consensus report consists of two parts – a detailed background report of several hundred pages and a summary of around 30 pages designed as a tool for policy makers. All topics and themes are related to biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The preparation of a consensus report is initiated based on direct requests from member countries and approved by all 147 governments before publication. Once the reports are approved, it is up to the governments of the member countries to implement the results in national policies – with support from IPBES in Denmark, among others.
